"My husband, Dennis, and I, have been fortunate enough to employ Geoff Barrett as a caretaker during a very difficult and pivotal time in my husband’s life. It is in great measure thanks to Geoff and his meticulous attention to detail, his military discipline, and his intelligence and diligence in executing on instructions that my husband and I weathered this calamity as well as we did. We owe a great debt to Geoff.
In December of 2025, my husband underwent a stem cell harvest, Melphalan chemotherapy, and a stem cell transplant under the care of doctors at Stanford Hospital. Stanford does these procedures as outpatient procedures, shifting all the liability from the Hospital to the primary caretaker, me, and all of the expense from the insurance to the individuals, my husband and me. We had to establish a sterile field in our home as my husband’s immune system was not merely compromised during this period of time, but entirely nonexistent. The care required was complex, exacting, and exhaustive. Any and all lapses risked my husband’s life. The caretaker had to wear a mask, gloves, and shoe coverings at all times. Everyone had to come and go through the garage, using the laundry room as an air lock in which to sterilize hands and shoes. Food from the outside, mine and Geoff’s, had to be kept in a cooler in the garage. No windows or doors could be opened unless my husband was wearing his respirator. When the entire home was vacuumed daily, Dennis had to be wearing his respirator. The kitchen and family room where my husband was sequestered had to be thoroughly cleaned daily: sink, counters, microwave, floors vacuumed and mopped. The same had to be done in the downstairs bathroom that he used and in his office upstairs. His sheets and towels had to be changed daily. He had to eat off of paper plates and use disposable cutlery. In the kitchen area, sponges had to be changed after each use, and paper towels were used in place of cloth kitchen towels and napkins. Garbage had to be taken out twice daily, and the person taking out the garbage had to sterilize upon returning to the home. What is more, Dennis’ temperature had to be monitored every three hours, and he had to be fed every 3 hours as well.
All of these things Geoff did without hesitation or prompting. When he had a question, he asked. He was unfailingly polite, courteous, and efficient. As a veteran, he was very well able to execute on clear instructions, and he did not push back on the requirements of the sterile protocol which were onerous and many.
In addition to being intelligent and a great worker, Geoff is also a lot of fun. He often had my husband engaged and laughing when no one else could. When Dennis was craving steak, Geoff was able to follow the sterile kitchen protocol for Dennis’ Low Microbial Diet, and get Dennis to eat two small steaks at a time when I had given up hope of his ever eating a normal meal during the treatment process. Geoff brings to his job not only a great attitude and truly superior skills in housecleaning, organization, and even cooking, but also much life experience from his life in the military and beyond that makes him an engaging companion and a pleasure to be around.
Dennis and I unreservedly recommend Geoff Barrett for any position for which he might apply either as a caregiver or as a supervisor and manager of others doing the job he does so well. "

"It is with pleasure I write this letter of reference for Geoff Barrett. Geoff has been an outstanding caregiver for my husband during the months of January and February 2026. He brings the skills needed to physically care for an elderly person with limited mobility. However, an even more important skill is that Geoff is a very effective communicator. He converses with my husband and draws him into conversation with similar interests. I recently heard Michael laughing and actually participating in the topic of discussion. I have known Geoff for just 2 months but can state definitively he has been the best caregiver
we’ve had in our 7 years of working with caregivers. He came to us through an agency and they will have a hard time finding someone of Geoff Barrett’s caliber going forward."
